Leigh Standley has been creating whimsical witty sketches since at least the seventh grade where she got poor marks in math class for doodling. She has lived in Boston for the past nine years and only "occasionally wishes it were Paris." Her inspirational sayings and bright images can be seen in galleries across the country. Leigh's "Tiara" card won the 2006 Louie Award for best Friendship card. At the Curly Girl Studio they believe "that hot chocolate should be served with whipped cream, bathtubs were built for bubbles and wine tastes better with friends. That flip flops go with everything, glasses should be half-full and that it is our responsibility to teach peace and send love."
Waste Not Paper features note card sets in a large variety of bright, playful papers. The studio is "dedicated to the concept that what we use every day can be beautiful, creative and friendly to the world."
Every New Year Kathleen sent collage cards to friends and family. Her son, Chris, believed her cards should be seen by many more, and so when he was 14, he sold his electric guitar and gave her the money for her first printing. She says, "I have abandoned the safe career path, to live the second half of my life in the hopeful unknown." Her collages are rich in color and are beautifully paired with little words like "Follow your Bliss" and thought provoking quotes.
Mina Lee began creating paintings and collages at the kitchen table between "Spaghettios and soccer games." Now that her children are grown, her studio is nestled in the woods in Northeastern Wisconsin. Her intention is to bring joy and laughter to people through her collage cards which incorporate hysterical sayings. She says, "I'm trying to keep smiling and endeavoring to find the wonder through the every day. It is our job to enjoy the journey."
